Freshman 15?

Ever since I started high school, I've always heard about people gaining the "freshman 15" in college. I don't think that it's very true at all. Maybe it's different for me because i live at home, and still have home cooked meals every now and then. But I also go out to eat an awful lot, and I've determined no change in my weight. Maybe it will happen later in the year but as of right now i feel that it doesn't apply to me. As a lot of you may know, being a student at WVU causes you to walk.. A LOT! It seems almost impossible for anyone to be gaining weight while on campus. Does anyone else feel like this? or do you think I'm wrong and feel it's easy to gain the rumored "freshman 15?"

Ha--when I was an undergraduate, it was the Freshman 10. :)

It probably makes a difference if you're getting home cooked food. It will also make a difference when the weather gets colder and people want to eat more anyway. The choices on campus can be pretty gross. It's basically fried fat with a side of fat in ketchup. I can see how it would happen, if you have those limited dining options.

I think if you have the meal plan that it would be easy to gain the freshman 15 because you are forced to eat the food that the school offers which isnt the best of food around. But I wouldnt know since I live in an apartment and get to pick what I eat. But I also see your point when you say students have to walk a lot and it seems impossible to gain anything. So I think it just depends.

Haha, I live on the Evansdale campus and I actually lost weight during the first few weeks of classes. The freshman 15 here must be from building muscle (since it weighs more than fat), if there's a freshman 15 at all.

P.S. The stairs by LSB & Brooks kill me D=

I definately think the freshman 15 is true. i already noticed a difference in my weight since i got to WVU. the meal plans have weird hours and the food isn't the healthiest. on saturdays and sundays the dining halls close so early, before most people would eat dinner, so your forced to eat out or order food. 2 different pizza places happen to be within a 2 minute walk from the towers and lincoln. after going out at night on high st. the best place to eat is at DP dough and im sure that's not the best thing to put in your body that late at night. because of the shitty food i eat here, i find myself tired all the time. so instead of going to the gym, i take naps. i definately notice a difference in my physical appearance and believe freshman 15 is true.

Well I do see how all the walking may be able to cancel the effects of the Freshman 15, but there are many ways to still be lazy while going to class. The biggest example is the elevator at Brook Hall, which people regularly use it to skip all the stairs to get to the Mountain Lair. So, I believe that the Freshman 15 does exist here, but it seems to only hit a few certain individuals more than others.

I can see how the freshman 15 can be a problem. If you live in the dorms & eat at the cafeterias you can see that the food is definitely processed and definitely unhealthy. I mean some things are okay, like salads and they have certain vegetables but a lot of people don't go for that option. My first week here I saw a guy carrying a tray of what was probably 10-15 hot dogs covered in cheese sauce. People like that sure have no hope at staying there ideal weight!

I was hoping to gain weight but so far i haven't gained any i think it's because most stuff on the meal plan is healthy food and usually I'll miss a meal or two but so far the 2am McDonalds hasn't hurt me.

I think that it really depends on the person. Yeah, some people go to the gym and work out, like me, others sit in their room and watch tv and eat snacks. Yesterday I was in the cafe and I watched a boy eat like three plates food and then an ice cream. After he finished his second ice cream he got one to go. People like that are going to gain more than 15 pounds. I have noticed a drop in my weight. You just have to eat right-saleds, fruit, juice, and veggies.
