One of the Oldest Debates is Still a Debate...

Abortion is a topic very commonly discussed when looking at pros and
cons. Personally I don't think abortion should be an option for
anyone except those who are victims of rape. I feel like a mother
should not be allowed to punish her unborn child for something the
child had nothing to do with and no control over. Yes i understand
that sometimes the condom breaks or something goes wrong - but if two
people feel they're responsible enough to have sex then they should be
responsible enough to take on the responsibilities of a baby; and if
that means getting pregnant, then so be it. The fact of the matter is
that a mother is terminating her child's life because she doesn't want
to have to deal with the consequences of her actions. This isn't fair
at all to the unborn child, who obviously has no say in the matter.
Rape is probably the only instance in which I think abortion should
even be considered. If a woman is raped against her will - not asking
for any kind of risk of
a pregnancy - then she should be able to make the choice of what to do
with her body.

I completely agree. Abortion is without a doubt utterly wrong. Over 1.3 million babies are aborted each year (2005 Pro Life Resource Manual). From 1973 (post Ro vs Wade)to 2005, 42 million babies were murdered (2005 Pro Life Resource Manual). This is the biggest genocide in history!!!! Nazi's killed 12 million, well congrats America you've killed 3 1/2 times that many. Not to mention lets look at the causes of these murders, INCONVIENCE!!! Its distgusting. The government simply let us down when they decided life doesnt start till birth, despite the fact at a 1981 senate committee on this issue scientists, biologist and geneticists unaminously confirmed live starts at conception. A denial of the truth shouldnt be the foundation for legalized murder. Its sad that parents are sacrificing their children on the alter of convience. How will we ever be able to justify ourselves if we dont stand up for those who can not stand for themselves?

I'm going to have to disagree on this one and I know I'm one of the few who do. I know if you are having sex you are supposed to be responsible to have a child. The thing is though what if you are on birth control and using a condom. Maybe you even take the morning after pill and somehow still end up getting pregnant. The idea of throwing your life away at such a young age is just too much. Even if you give it up for adoption, the girl is ruining her body, she will have to miss class when she put on bed rest and she is looked so down upon it would just be too much. If all these people were having kids there would be too many to adopt and they would all be put in foster homes and decrease their chance of having somewhat of a successful life. And some people would still drink and do drugs their children would have so many problems they might not even survive birth.

I agree with you 100%. I feel that abortion should not be allowed. People who kill their babies are murders and I feel once they do it once it will be easier for them to do it in the future. I feel that mother's should face the consequences of their actions even if it does mean they have to adjust to be able to take care of a child. I feel that mother's should take another action like giving their baby away rather then killing an innocent child. However, I feel that once the mother carries the baby for nine months it will be extremely hard to give their baby away. Therefore I feel that abortion should be illegal and that people should take more action to try and get this to be illegal.

i think abortion isnt right in a way because you make mistakes and you have to face your responsibilities. One way i think abortion has a reason to be thought about is if the women is raped or harmed in some way that made her pregnant.

Here is something else that should be brought up. Do you guys think the State or the Federal government should make the laws concerning abortion?

I personally don't think that state or federal governments should be able to make laws concerning abortion. I think that should be completely left upon the girl that is pregnant and her family. There are so many protestors and people against abortion that anyone who goes through with it will have to face being talked down upon and be talked bad about for most likely the rest of their life. I believe that abortion is both wrong and right. The idea of killing a child is horrible, but on the other hand so is throwing away your entire life beucase of a mistake or accident. Getting pregnant at a young age before you are ready is a horrible thing, and with abortion either way you are ending a life before it really had a chance to begin.

I wish people spent more time creating ways to help girls give up babies for adoption, for example, rather than attacking what is already a difficult and life changing choice.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think I personally would take the pro "life" group's message much more seriously if they focused more on ways to help women and less on judgmentally denouncing their choice. Most pro life groups don't front the money to raise a baby and most people who are pro life also seem to be against the welfare system, so where is the money to take care of a baby (or even give birth to it) supposedly going to come from? If they aren't against welfare, do they favor expanding it to take care of all the low-income babies who would be born?

I'd like to see a practical treatment of the issue for a change. How will you help the women who go on to have the babies you don't want them to abort--or is it just tough, deal with it themselves?

There are too many people on this planet to begin with so abortion should definitly be legal. Just because a woman may have made a mistake it should be her choice if she want to subject her body and her life to the changes associated with it. I am not sure how some of you pro-life people would feel if it was you who were pregnant or someone in your family. Some people are just not ready to bring a baby into this world and it is cruel to bring a baby into this world that you cant properly care for. If a person wants to give it up for adoption than good for them but who are you to tell them what a woman has to do with her body. I also think that babies with mental problems should be aborted becuase that is cruel too.
