How High Will It Go??

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's our gas prices!

To no one's surprise our gas prices are sky high and are continuing to
rise. With the information I have gathered from economic studies, oil
companies are acting as monopolies by merging together. The 5 major
oil companies (BP, Exxon Mobile, etc) are controlling the oil supply
so it doesn't live up to our demands. If the oil companies continue
to do this, by the year 2010 we are going to be paying a little over
four dollars for a gallon of gas. As you may know, monopolies are
illegal in the United States; also the United States is not a complete
capitalistic nation. I think it is time for the government to
intervene and bring the gas prices from the sky, and back down to
earth’s surface.

I completely agree with you but the problem is that the politicians have their campaigns paid for by these companies and would never bit the hand that feeds them.

Is there a way to get action that doesn't involve government support? What would that even look like?

the sad truth is....everyone is still going to buy gas even with all of the complaining about the rising price. our society is very dependent on our vehicles for the means of transportation and the goverment knows this. so maybe they figure, why bother doing anything about it if everyone will buy it no matter the price. plus, some americans bring it upon themselves. ones that drive the H3 and other huge vehicles, yet they live 5 minutes from their job and the store, and have 1 kid. i hate seeing people with HUGE vehicles when they are really unnecessary for that persons lifestyle.

i agree with you. I get sick of paying almost 4 dollars in virginia sometimes. But there really is no way we could stop it like the first comment says.

To answer your question I have no idea. But I never gave it much thought because I can never imagine that ever happening. It feels like a lot of people will complain, but not take an extra step and do something about issues such as this one.

I can't stand the sight of large vehicles myself. The only exception I can make is the fact that maybe a large family does need a van, or maybe the fact that some companies need large vehicles to continue to do significant work. Other than that it drives me absolutely crazy to see large vehicles in operation. Thats why from now on every car in production should have the hybrid feature, and make standard cars illegal in the not so distant future.

I do believe that the time for gas prices to start dropping is long past due. While I dont own a huge vehicle, I do own a mustang gt that gets around 13 miles to the gallon. I spend fifty dollars at the pump, and within a week i'm back on empty needing to fill up again. It does all have to do with the government, and I believe that people have too many needs in their everyday lives to have to spend so much money at the gas pumps. There is really no need for the prices to stay this high, and they could honestly be dropped at any time, it's just all a matter of getting the people in control to worry more about the average citizen than themselves and the money that is going into their pocket.
