Being a freshman at WVU, they nicely made the requirement that we have
to live in dorms. Along with this nice rule came this one: live in WVU
dorms, you must purchase a meal plan. Even if one has no intention of
eating off the meal plan, they still have to buy it. How is this fair?
Not to mention that when touring WVU on orientation they trick you
into thinking the food is good by treating you at Hatfields, where it
just happens to be good food that does not count for your meal plan
except for breakfast. The food they serve in the dorm cafeterias for
the most part is not that great, and the things they make that are
decent are not always the healthiest. They always have pizza and
French fries, and than wonder why this and beer make freshman gain the
freshman 15? You would think that with all the money from the meal
plans there would be really good tasting food. Also the ‘meal times’
that work with your meal plans aren’t that convenient and a lot of
meals go to waste.
I know I can not wait to have my own place where I can make my own food and
buy my own groceries and less money will go to waste.

OK, I'm going to ask a dumb question. There's food in your dorm buildings? I thought you had to go to the Lair or somewhere to get fed.
Also--did you know that about 20 years ago people didn't refer to the "Freshman 15", they called it the "Freshman 10". :) What has happened between now and then?
I agree with you on this. The are some places you can find were the food isn't that bad tho. Boreman Hall downtown doesn't have bad food. They to do not serve that many people so the quality in food is alittle better.
I never eat in the cafeteria very rarely i do. I do think that the meal plans are a but ridiculous because alot of my meals go to waste and all i eat is at the brew and gold or my room. I didnt even want meal plans when i came here. But living on our own next year out of the dorms will definitely be nice. And I dont know i wish it was still the freshman 10 :) ha.
I do not think it is fair to have to pay for a meal plan even if you are not going to use it. Also I do not think that it is right you can only change your meal plan once during the year. I had a friend who stopped eating at the dorms and she still has to pay for like 15 meals a week. The lady wouldn't let her even cut back on the amount of meals she bought.
I definitely agree.. I hate dorm food and since I've stopped eating it, I lost 11 pounds in 3 weeks. Obviously something is wrong with it. It is true that at lunch and dinner, they almost always serve pizza and french fries. I personally do not like either. The Healthy "U" food does not stay out very long and really, most of it tastes horrible. I also cannot wait until I can cook for myself next year.

Personally, I have not been overwhelmingly disappointed in the food in the dorms, although it is typically less than average. Living in Boreman, its easy for me to just walk down into the Bistro and grab a salad or sandwich. This is not the case with Arnold though. The few times that I have been in Arnold I have been forced to eat either browning lettuce with sour dressing or fatty chicken fingers and french fries. It is definitely a bonus to be able to to choose from a fresh salad bar daily in the Boreman Bistro, but you cannot always count on other good food being made. Majority of the time you're left with 2 options - stand and wait in line for a sandwich for twenty minutes, or stick to a salad, which chances are, won't fill you up.
I know that my meal plan has went to waste. I might use it for breakfast after we get out of english, but other than that I really never can either find the time to make it during the hours that are scheduled for dinner, or just really dont feel like it during then. I can't wait until next year when i dont have to order a meal plan, that's a whole lot of money back in my pocket.

haha Becca that's funny because it's so true. I live in Arnold, and there really is not much of an option of appetiezing and healthy foods there. I manage by making myself a sandwich and a salad occasionally. Boreman food tends to be more exquisite, but I really enjoy the soup there. :). I think food at Towers is acceptable. I just like the variety they have there. I rarely eat at the Mt. Lair, but when I do I normally get Quiznos. But yes I am very excited to have my own place next year, and have the ability to make my own food choices.
peace out dorm food. :)
Yes, I agree.. There needs to be much more choices of food. Everyday you choose from the same kinds of food, and they all taste so fake to me. I just want some real food, and not rubbery pizza, or bad tasting pasta sauce.
