Make Me An Offer I Can't Refuse...

So, as we were talking about in class, possibly--POSSIBLY--I might give you the Monday after Spring Break off (March 31). I'm still on the fence about this.

On the one hand, my most favorite activity of the semester is scheduled for that day, and I want to make sure I have great attendance for it. So maybe it would be in my best interests to let you have that day off and do the activity Wednesday. Also, you've been working pretty hard lately. Maybe you deserve it. And maybe, just maybe, I kind of like you all. So maybe I'll do it because I like you.

But on the other hand, maybe you have tests and things due that day anyway, and you have to be in other classes. After all, in the "real world", if you took vacation time and then phoned your boss to say, "Nah, not going to be in on Monday," the results would probably be unfavorable. Maybe I'm not teaching you important "life skills" by giving you that day off.

Convince me.

Like you said in class, attendance on the first Monday after a break is very poor. I know after Christmas break I took the first monday off. I even called off work. I think that if this activity is as good as you say it is, we should wait until Wednesday to have class to get the normal attendance.

I think we should get the day off. if many people are going to skip then there seems to be no point, and im sure i speak for a lot of people when i say that having an 8:30 class is really hard to get to in the first place. We just got done with the third paper that had a lot of interviewing, calls, traveling, research and writing that went with it that took up a lot of time the past week. also i have a lot of cramming and homework to do sunday night once im back that im sure wont get done over the break. so i'll be up late sunday night and need extra sleep time. im sure if you give us monday off everyone will attend wednesday, especially knowing its your favorite activity.

as far as life skills go, we all know that in the real world we would have to suck it up and go, but thats whats so great about still being in a school setting. its our last couple years of freedom to get to sleep in, having late nights of cramming with friends, and the occasional cancelled class.

I think you should give us the day off. We have been working really hard and for the most part everyone is in class every class. You are teaching us life skills, we have to learn how to approach our boss and ask for a day off. I am asking for a day off. Your class is my first class for the day and would pefer to sleep in late.Since I will be leaving home late on Sunday night.I want to spend as much time as possible home.Especially since my pregnant sister-in-law is due to deliver on the April 1st.I am hoping she will deliver early so I can be there. Please give us the day off. It is also like giving yourself a day off and you deserve it!

From that blog post you seem to have given us a lot more reasons to why you are thinking of not having class. Do YOU really want to have to be in your 8:30 class? You know that if you do have class the majority of the people will show up cause attendance is mandatory but really we will probably be half asleep so it will really seem like we aren't there... day off sounds great=)

This is not just a day off for us but a day off for you as well. Most people either skip the day before break or the day after break and as for this break we have Friday off anyway so I would expect that most people would skip class on monday. You would also not be the only teacher doing this. I know have at least one other class that will not be held on the monday that we get back. We are also having this break during Easter so I think when asking the question of should we have class. I would respond with another question. What would Jesus do? Me and JC are pretty close buds and he thinks we should get off.

Wow--only 1/8 of the total classes has responded so far?

Maybe you don't really want the day off...

Is it really your job to be teaching us "life skills"? As far as I know, everyone in the class is a freshman. At this point in our college careers, aren't we supposed to be adjusting from the end of high school rather than preparing for the job market? When we graduate college, we are said to be entering the "real world"- college is desinged in part as a transition device to allow people to safely and efficiently go from children to productive members of society. Put short, this is the last hurrah of fun-time. Give us the day off, please.

if you really like the activity that much you should let us have the monday off and we can do it on wednesday when you know class will have full attendance. also, we are going to have the new huge paper to be working on once you assign it, so one last day off would be nice.

I believe we should not have class Monday morning and instead USE this day to get back in the swing of things. Class attendance will be down you even said that yourself in class Wednesday. Also I am at my max of 3 absences due to various reasons, I cannot afford to not get my A in English So I must attend every class from now on. For Spring break Iam going out to Seattle, Washington for business and I will be getting back on Sunday, if my flight is delayed I may not be able to get back till MOnday which would cause me to get a B in English this cannot happen. SO that is yet another reason why I dont think we should have class MOnday. There maybe students who are delayed in their travels back to school.

Furthermore, Given that the life of a TA is an extremely stressful one I think that our brilliant teacher needs the morning off as well.

although i do have an earlier class that morning it would be nice to not have class so that i could sleep in later and eat breakfast later, because after break it will probably be hard for me to be getting up so early again. If you do cancel class i am sure that everyone will show up for your wednesday class for your favorite activity!!!

I am very interested in taking part in your favorite activity, but if
there is a chance that not everyone will be there to attend maybe it
would be more fun if we postponed it a day. I would think there
would be a higher rate of students to make it to class on Wednesday
morning rather than Monday, and you would probably get more participation from our class! I really love all of the activities we do in class, and I for one would love to enjoy your favorite activity with as much as students as possible! I think the best bet for you and our entire class would be to wait until Wednesday to have class and do the activity with the majority of the students there! :).

i feel like we should have the day off. our attendance in class has been very good. i feel like we rarely have people miss. also, the activity seems like it would be better with more people there
