Reading Around The Table: Peer Review

I believe that peer review, whether formal or informal, is an important factor in the process of editing and revising work. Although a peer does not actually grade the work, they have an outside viewpoint that does not have a connection to the work they are reviewing, whether emotional or otherwise. Peers also, on the other hand, have an insight to the work they are reviewing, as they are most likely doing the same work themselves and they are able to accurately tell what in a work is correct or not. Peer review is habitually helpful and should always be used before officially completing a work.

I would agree with you, and I know you think that is, at least, "officially" true, so why don't more students take it seriously, I wonder?

I would have to agree. I believe that the peer review is essential to the editing process. I know that this past one has made me really think about that time in my life and helped me to remember details. The only problem with the peer review depends upon the group you are in, if you have a member who really doesn't care your gonna end up out of luck. So I guess a peer review is really like a lottery, there are always going to be winner's, yet the same goes with loser's. -Irving

I really liked doing peer reviews. I was apprehensive about it at first, but then "it didn't hurt" like I thought it might. It was actually really helpful. I was able to see where my paper needed help and ways that I could improve it and lengthen it that I would have not thought of on my own. I was actually really greatful for the help I recieved and have changed my viewpoints on peer reviews completely.

I agree with Boone. Peer review is an essential part of the writing process because like he said, the other kids have an outside viewpoint and are on the same level because they are all also working on the same paper, so they can give purposeful feedback. Although it sometimes may feel pointless when the person reviewing your paper leaves very little feedback, the one thing they leave may spark your imagination to expand somewhere you didn't think you could expand before.

I have to agree. At first i was not so sure that peer review would be that helpful. I figured most of the studnets would not take it serious enough. However i was wrong. I found the peer review to be very helpful. There was alot of little things wrong in my paper that i did not see myself. The peer review really help me with my paper. i was able to add alot more detail to my paper from peer reviewing

I happen to not be a fan of peer reviews...I never have. I feel like I don't get that great of feedback and its never really criticism. It is mostly just the usual, easy grammatical corrections, not the real revision that can be so beneficial. sometimes you can get lucky and get someone who revises well, but others not so much. I know it is a requirement so I can handle it, but I'm still not a big fan.

I believe peer reviews are very helpful. My peer review helped me out alot. Having other people read over my work let me see the mistakes I made and the things that I needed to explain more clearly. Although you may understand what your talking about, others do not and if it wasn't for someone pointing that out to me, I would not of changed it. I also think if people do not take it serious, you will not get the feedback your hoping for.

I agree with Boone about peer review. I think it is a very helpful tool in writing a paper. Your peers can find mistakes you didn't, before it is graded byt the teacher. Also, I agree with that it helps the reader see other styles of writing and what to do and what not to do.

I believe peer review is a very important and helpful part of the editing process. It allows students to interact with each other and see the different writing styles they have. Reading another student's paper might give you some good ideas for your own paper. I also think it is less stressful to have a fellow student revising your paper then the teacher, therefore, by having a fellow student look over the paper first, your teacher might not mark the paper up nearly as bad!

I think that peer review is important. It gives you another persons
perspective, who is more ont he same level as you. It also helps to
know what your more common errors are and having someone read the paper
seems to help a lot. I also agree that reading another persons paper
can help with ideas but also with how you read your own papers.

I agree with Boobe as well, but because it gives you another perception of your paper. One from a person who will likly know a little bit more of what you are talking about than say the teacher. Not always true but it is sometimes true. And they give me alot more ideas.

I think peer review is really helpful. It lets someone on the same level as yourself evaluate your work. This helps you to learn to evaluate your own work. It also gives you a sense of different and new styles of writing. It also gives you new ideas for your own papers.
