I think that English Department makes us write the MGRP because it is so different than all the other papers that we already had to write this year. This paper is not a typical paper because it does not require us to write a persuasive paper. It is an objective paper that allows us to use our creative side.

The department wants to have students form a broad objective question
and research for more details over several genres. It forces students
to look at multiple perspectives on a single subject. This paper is
designed to let the students research a topic of their choice so that
it is interesting to write, as well as read. I think this is a great
paper because if researched and written well, a lot of interesting
points and observations could be made that wouldn't normally be
noticed.

The MGRP is a type of paper that not many of us has ever written, let
along even heard of. This unfamiliarity brings up the burning question,
"Why does the English Department make us do the MGRP?" Well for one, it
is probably meant to set us up for English 102 which we will all have to
take at some point in our college career. English 102 is a class based
around the research paper, so I guess the Department thinks that if we
get exposed to it before we actually enter the class then we might have
an easier time. Another reason is to give us a break from writing
boring old papers. The MGRP seems like a paper that is going to let us
be creative and have fun, or have as much fun as we can while writing a
paper.

The MGRP is a way to require the community-style project in an academic environment. Group projects are much more common in the business world, and students generally don't get the opportunity to work in groups. The problem with group projects, as I see it, is group grading. Unless the work is perfectly evenly distributed, (extremely unlikely) then the grades should be individualized. Of course this is not a viable option. Group projects and group grades sound an awful lot like communism or socialism. In reality our education system is extremely "capitalistic", in that we are individual students competing against each other for a more honored graduation degree. We do not get group degrees, and therefore the idea of group projects is inconsistent with our education system. -McFadden
The MGRP is a great way to research a topic in many different perspectives while still getting the point across. You get to create many genres to help the audience understand your research question. This is a lot more interesting to read then a five page paper. By doing this paper you are able to get more ideas from your partner and enhance your way of thinking.
I think we have to write the MGRP because it allows us to work with others. They are preparing us for the future because we need to learn how to work in groups. We need to be able to depend on other people and listen to others ideas. It is a huge assignment but when people work together it goes fast and the
result is amazing. I think we also write it to do something new. This is different than any other papers I have done.
The MGRP is a research paper that many of us have not done before. I think that it is a good way to present a topic from a plethora of resources and it gives us the chance to work in a group. The English Department probably makes us do it because it is, in a way, like a final. It uses all the styles of writing we have practiced, and introduces some other new styles, making it the project to end all projects.
The MGRP is the type of paper first looking at it you want to go crazy because it seems like a lot of work, but since it is with two people it is not that bad. It gives good experience working with a partner because in the real work that might happen. Also it lets us learn about real world topics that we are interested in.

I believe we are required to do an MGRP to become more open minded and see more in depth everyday things. By looking at simple obituaries and recipes we have all began to pick out the details very easily. I think the MGRP is done with a partner not just because it's a big project, but to learn to work with others and be responsible.

When we first went over the MGRP I thought it was so overwhelming! I have never done any papers like this before. I think having partners was a great idea. Partners makde the work easier and it gives you new ideas and styles. Overall the project really wasn't overwhelming at all, infact I think it was one of the best papers to write.
